Now based in New York, Uruguay-born artist Vicky Barranguet moved to Boston in 1996 and to NY in 1997, where she studied with Larry Poons, William Scharf and Frank O'Caine, at The Art Students League of New York in Manhattan, where artists such as Georgia O'Keefe, Jackson Pollock, Cy Twombly, Alexander Calder, Mark Rothko, among many others, studied or taught. In 2001, she was awarded with a Merit Scholarship, judges and curators from "The Frick Collection", her work was exhibited at Lincoln Center’s Cork Gallery. In Uruguay, she studied with Clever Lara. Her tudies with master painters, such as Larry Poons and William Scharf, propelled her to find a voice of her own, a colorful expression about life, emotions and music.
Vicky seeks to recreate her interactions with the world through spontaneous brush strokes in fits of passion that would vividly encapsulate her most intense emotions otherwise hidden deep in the recesses of her mind. Through the explosive use of colours and a mixture of mediums, Vicky records different elements of life laughter, chaos, turbulences, excitement, magic and all things in life beautiful yet imperfect, on a simple canvas that truly reflects life yet transcends the boundaries of reality into the metaphysical realm.
